KITTY CAT GAME:

KITTY CAT I HEAR A MOUSE

PITTER PATTER THROUGH THE HOUSE

KITTY HURRY, KITTY RUN

RUN OR YOU WILL MISS THE FUN

RUN, RUN, RUN, RUN,

RUN, RUN RUN, RUN. STOP !

The melody simply follows the major scale. Here are the notes in SOLFEGE:

d d d d r r r

m m m m f f f

s s s s l l l

t t t t

d' d' d'

The RUN RUN part at the end is simply the major scale going down:

d' t l s f m r d STOP ! Yes, you must say STOP at the end. I usually sing the RUN RUN part twice and then say STOP. Otherwise, the children will go on chasing each other for ever.

THE PLAY: Children are in a circle. One child is chosen as the cat and sits in the middle. They must cover their eyes until they hear the word, 'FUN'. Another child is chosen to be the mouse. The mouse tiptoes around the outside of the circle the opposite way that the circle is moving as the words are sung. When the word, 'FUN' is sung the mouse better be careful. The cat doesn't have very long in which to tag the mouse. On the word 'FUN' every one in the circle lifts up their arms while still holding hands and the chase is on. Keep the arms up because the mouse or the cat may decide to sneak through the middle of the circle during the chase. It's funny that it usually takes children at a Grade Three of Four level to figure out that you can go through the middle during the game. Grade Ones will simply go around the circle in one direction during the chase. Whereas Grade Twos are sneakier and may change direction during the chase. It's a fun game. Garaunteed to bring smiles to the faces of the children. Try it!
