YELLOW LEVEL

We will continue to practice making notes (quarter and eigth notes). The children will need to learn that notes can be upside down and that the dots will go on the other side when the notes are upside down. Plus we will prepare songs for the year-end recital in June!

Please make sure to POINT AT THE RYTHMS each day, sing the song words and clap the rhythm.

GREEN LEVEL

In the Green class the students will now learn to read and write music upon the staff in C major pentatonic. They will learn to make the leger line for the C note and continue to learn the Pitch Names (or Letter Names) for the notes as opposed to the solfege (or hand sign names).

RECORDER: (3 times each day)
Please remember to play the recorder song three times each day!

STEMS: are the lines to the side of the dots on the music staff: They are essentially the 'ta's and the 'tee tee's, the rhythm names we learned in yellow class.
STEM RULE: if the dot is higher than the middle line, then the stem goes down to the left of the dot. And opposite for if a note is below the middle line. If a note is on the middle line, the stem can go either way, doesn't matter.

'doh' on staff
If 's' is on a line, 'mi' is on the line underneath and 'doh' is on the next line underneath. There three notes are called a 'TRIAD'. They always have the same positioning in relation to each other, no matter which note 'doh' is on.

BLUE LEVEL

The Blue level students will finsih the year reading and writing music in the key of C major and A minor.

They will also learn to play in the key o f C major on the recorder. Please remember to ask them to play the recorder for you every day!

PURPLE LEVEL

The Purple class will finish off the Musical Rainbow program during the next two months. Each student will write their own composition to perform at the 'PURPLE RECITAL' held in June at Place des Arts. JUNE 20TH 7pm. We will also focus on reading and writing music in the key of C major and A minor.

Theory Section:
Composition: Make up your own song using the form ABAC and the rhythms on the page given.
Third composition. We will go through and put together a piece to perform.

Think of a name for your composition. Choose KEY and write in notation.

Recorder Section:
SOLO PIECE: should make the choice soon. I will help individually in class with learning your piece.


Students are to pick a solo piece to perform at PURPLE RECITAL for WEDNESDAY, JUNE 20th 7pm
